CSTE Meeting & Event Accessibility 

 

CSTE is committed to a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment that enable all attendees to engage fully at CSTE meetings and events, including individuals with non-obvious disabilities and/or chronic health conditions, and people of all ages and body types. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility to participate in CSTE meetings and events, including the Annual Conference, please complete the following form:  

Accommodation requests may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Accessible sleeping room when booked through the group block  
  • Assistive Listening Devices for in-person attendees 
  • Reserved seating for in-person sessions 
  • Live captioned videos through Zoom technology for virtual attendees 
  • Wheelchair access in facility and throughout meeting rooms 
  • Dedicated lactation room at the CSTE Annual Conference and National Office 
  • Dedicated non-denominational room at the CSTE Annual Conference and National Office 
  • Dietary consideration of restrictions for small group meetings where meals are provided and gluten-free and vegetarian options at the CSTE Annual Conference for optional breaks  
  • Advance copy of the slides available on meeting platform if provided by the presenting author at the CSTE Annual Conference 
  • Service animal access for in-person events 
  • American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for in-person events 
  • Gender-neutral bathroom in main meeting venue 

This is not an all-inclusive list and individuals whether already registered or considering attending a CSTE meeting or event should request through the above link or contact the National Office at [email protected] or (770) 458-3811 to discuss individual needs. All meeting and hotel facilities are wheelchair accessible as a required ADA.  

As a standard practice at the CSTE Annual Conference a lactation and non-denominational rooms are provided in the main meeting venue. Location information can be found in the conference app and online agenda, once available in the weeks before the Annual Conference.

Pittsburgh, PA | David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC) 

Accessible Parking 

The DLCC has a 700-car parking garage attached to the building. Numerous accessible parking options are on the first level of the garage, with close access to the ballroom entrance and East Lobby entrance. 

Drop-off Points 

The DLCC has curb cut-outs at the East Lobby and West Lobby entrances on 10th Street. These cut-outs provide easy access to the main lobby areas. Sliding glass doors and accessible doors are located at each main lobby with clear access to elevators. 

Restrooms 

All restroom facilities at the DLCC are equipped for standard wheelchair accessibility. The Center also provides family restrooms, which are located throughout the building. 

Elevators 

All elevators are accessible, are equipped with Braille signage, and lead to all levels of the Convention Center. 

KultureCity® Certified – Sensory Inclusive Building 

The DLCC has partnered with KultureCity® to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Sensory bags containing noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, feeling thermometer, sunglasses and verbal cue cards are available.  A Quiet room is available on Level 2, Concourse A, and Headphone Zones are clearly marked.  Guests can download the free KultureCity® app to view the available sensory tools and the social story detailing the items featured at the DLCC.  See our social story here…Social Story. 

Service Animals 

Service animals that are specifically trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability are welcome in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. All service animals must remain on a leash or in a harness, and be under control of the guest with a disability or a designee. 

Wheelchair Availability 

The DLCC has complimentary non-motorized wheelchairs available for guests to use while on site. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are located at the East Lobby security desk, West Lobby security desk, and the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom, Presented by Dollar Bank, security desk. Wheelchairs are not permitted to leave the property.

Hotel Access 

Visitors can gain access to the hotel walkway from the first and second floors of the parking garage, or on the third floor of the DLCC. Each side of the hotel walkway is equipped with automatic doors. 

Convention Center Riverfront Plaza Access 

The Convention Center Riverfront Plaza is a portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail which connects Point State Park to the Strip District. The Plaza is accessible via a ramp located at the crosswalk on 10th Street and Fort Duquesne Blvd. 

Disability Evacuation Plan 

The DLCC has developed and maintains an evacuation plan with specific information related to guests with disabilities.  You may request a copy of this plan from your event coordinator or by email:  [email protected]. 

Mother’s Room 

On the second level of the DLCC, we offer a dedicated space for parents of newborns/infants to be used as a private space for nursing mothers. When at the DLCC, please ask a staff member for the location and how to gain access.
